How to install Wordpress on your server.
First there are two ways to install Wordpress, the easy way and the harder way.

If your site host provides "Fantastico" as a utility script, it will install Wordpress in about 5 minutes. HostRocket has this available in your control panel. Look under the icon "Add-On Software" in Scripts and Programs. Here is a short tutorial on using Fantastico.

On the other hand, if Fantastico is not available you can install Wordpress by hand with a browser and FileZilla or other FTP program.

We open FileZilla and log into the FTP access to the site. This can be your top site or any of the other domains that exist below that top site. HostRocket allows you 8 other sites under one top site.

Go into the public_html folder you see in the right side window.

Create a new folder with the name of your domain name but leave off the .com or .org . I am going to use a domain name as a test that I had left over and never expect to use. Here you see the empty folder named nanofuture-spyglass .

Now, in the left side window of Filezilla find your installation files for the latest Wordpress. You should have downloaded the installation file for Wordpress and exported all the files to a folder on your computer. These are the files we need to upload. (Show FileZilla3.jpg )

Select all the files on the left by Ctrl-A , then click and drag them across to the right side window. That will upload them all to the new folder on the server. It will take two minutes even with cable or DSL. It's about a 2.5 meg upload.

Now you should see the same files in the left and right windows of Filezilla. You should see wp-admin , wp=content and wo-includes along with a host of individual files.

Now we need to edit one file in the local wordpress installation. Use a texteditor like notepad and open wp-condig-sample.php from your local computer. It is short but at the top you see this.

// ** MySQL settings ** //
define('DB_NAME', 'wordpress'); // The name of the database
define('DB_USER', 'username'); // Your MySQL username
define('DB_PASSWORD', 'password'); // ...and password
define('DB_HOST', 'localhost'); // 99% chance you won't need to change this

We want to change three things. Remember those three things when you set up the database ? Now is when we need them. Get the database name, the user name and the user password and edit the code to be this ( or different in your case ). In case you don't have a database set up yet, go do that first.

You can see my database manager page here You can see that I named the database nanospyglass and HostRocket immediately added the prefix actiona_ to give me a database name of actiona_nanospyglass ( show databaseManagerpage1.jpg) .

Now here is the code modified for this database.

// ** MySQL settings ** //
define('DB_NAME', 'actiona_nanospyglass'); // The name of the database
define('DB_USER', 'actiona_tester'); // Your MySQL username
define('DB_PASSWORD', '12345'); // ...and password
define('DB_HOST', 'localhost'); // 99% chance you won't need to change this value

Save the wp-config-sample.php file as wp-config.php into your wordpress installation on your computer. Then we are going to upload that new file and we are almost done.

Now everthing should have been done to install Wordpress correctly. Lets try it and see.

Open a browser and go to

http://www.nanofuture-spyglass.com/wp-admin/install.php

To test your own site, replace the "nanofuture-spyglass" with your own domain name .

First Step: Fill in your title for the site and your email address. I shortened my title to Spyglass. Conintue to second step. Finished.

Now when you go to the domain name iteset, you will see the first page of the site with no customiztion done yet. (show NewSitepage1.jpg)

The Word press installation is done. You will need a lot of changes but you now have a basic installation that is easy to modify.
