What kind of ads can you add to the site?
Ads take several forms. A banner is often part of the initial page. They usually are pasted in the logo area at the top. You might want them between posts or at the top of the center content. Moving them around takes some understanding of html. The next easiest ad is the Google Adsense ads or Yahoo ads of the same type. They can be added to a sidebar with a plug-in or by pasting the Google code into your html page. The plug-in is better. And you can add several items into the module to get more ads stacked along the sidebar. The final type of ad is the affiliate ad that can be anything from a line of text to a small image to a tall animated sidebar image. We want to be able to add these ads anywhere we want. There are hundreds of stores and manufacturers who need you to sell their goods. All you have to do is find them and register to be in their affiliate program. Even new sites with little traffic can join many plans. Where should you put them on your site? The main idea is to blend them into the content on a page so that they are not visually different from what is already there. And they need to be placed where the user will naturally look. The bottom of the page is the worst location, the top left is the best. Across the top of the content is second best, along with down the upper left sidebar. The third level down is top right sidebar. Many affiliate programs exist out there and it only takes a little searching to find them. Affiliate Program Lists will carry many producers who want you to publish their ads on your site. You have to choose what products will appeal to the type of people who come to your site. It would make no sense to advertise expensive handbags on a game site for kids. You have to pick the most appealing items that match your users' interests. And within that group, pick the highest priced items to maximize your return on the ad space. You don't want to sell $2 items at a 20% commission if you can move the same number of items that sell for $50 and pay only 10% commission. Always maximize your return on the space. And that means you need a lot more ads than you have room for. Or at least you need to know where to find enough good ads to |
